Sharon Regional earns award from American College of Cardiology for heart attack treatment

Sharon Regional Health System has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2012 – one of only 73 hospitals nationwide to do so. The award recognizes Sharon Regional’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Sharon Regional has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

To receive the ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award, Sharon Regional consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry–GWTG for four consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to  ACC/AHA Clinical Guideline recommendations, monitors drug safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) heart attack patients and non- ST- elevation myocardial infarction patients (NSTEMI).

“Having our heart attack treatment program recognized by the American College of Cardiology is further tribute to the great work being done at Sharon Regional by our entire heart attack treatment team along with the successful partnerships we have with our regional EMS providers,” said Ronnie Mignella, M.D., board certified interventional cardiologist and medical director of Sharon Regional’s Winner Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Lab. “To the benefit of our patients, this is the second award we’ve earned in 2012, having been recognized earlier in the year as an AETNA Institute of Quality for heart attack treatment.”

Sharon Regional’s Heart and Vascular Institute provides highly specialized cardiac care including screening, diagnostic testing, diagnostic and interventional cardiology, open heart surgery, electrophysiology, vascular surgery, cardiac rehab, cardiac CT and MRI, and much more.
