Sharon Regional Health System has renamed its Surgical Family Waiting Room the Dale Pokorney Family Lounge in recognition of a charitable gift made to the Sharon Regional Health Foundation in memory of Dr. Pokorney by his wife, Susan. A dedication ceremony was held recently at the Health System for Mrs. Pokorney and her four grown children, Rachel, Joel, Benjamin, and Paige, who were all born at Sharon Regional. Dr. Pokorney joined the Sharon Regional medical staff in 1983 and passed away in 2004 from pancreatic cancer.

During the ceremony Sharon Regional president and CEO John R. “Jack” Janoso, Jr. welcomed those in attendance and board chairman Robert Jazwinski paid tribute to Dr. Pokorney as an outstanding member of the medical staff, a dedicated family man, and a personal friend. Joel Pokorney then spoke on behalf of the Pokorney children followed by the unveiling of the Dale Pokorney Family Lounge recognition plaque by Mrs. Pokorney.

Dave Grober, president and executive director of the Sharon Regional Health Foundation, expressed his appreciation to Mrs. Pokorney for the gift to the Foundation and how it will perpetuate the Pokorney family name at the Health System. He also presented a plaque to Mrs. Pokorney that is a replica of the one on display in the Dale Pokorney Family Lounge that recognizes the naming of the room. The ceremony closed with several comments from Michalene Gula, RN, BSN, director of the Women’s Center at Sharon Regional and a reception for those in attendance.
